  A small slice of heaven. A very quiet and remote resort and a little bit rustic but that just added to the character and the atmosphere. It was clean and the bed very comfortable. We love having a real living room and a dining room table. The 1 and 1/2 bathrooms were nice. Be ready for the fresh air as the shutters open to let air flow through. We loved that, it did cool down at night but we stayed warm under covers. We had an ocean front condo with incredible views and the ocean a stones throw away. There was not a bad condo in the resort but we will get ocean front when we go back. Just remember, when you are that close to the water, everything is damp.
  
  The staff were very friendly and helpful with advice on where to go and more importantly, where not to go. The free shuttle was a real plus as we could go to town, Hanalei, for dinner and wine and not worry about the drive home. It is a narrow windy road with 6 one lane bridges. By the way, some of the best restaurants that I have been to in Hawaii are in Hanalei, check with the resort staff as to which they recommend.
  
  The restaurant next door does great food too, along with offering take-out if you wish to take it back to your condo. They are not open in the morning but the art store does great coffee, smoothies and bagels.
  
  While the beach is smaller it is never crowded and there is an area to swim which I would say is safe for all ages. Remember this is the ocean and you need to keep an eye on your kids, and yourself. The odd large wave can surprise you. The resort provides beach chairs and umbrellas in the condo's for your use. A big plus for us.
  
  The weather is damper at the north end of the island but it changes so fast. One minute it was a down pour and then sunny and hot.
  
  If you like the big five star resorts, air conditioning, ultra modern rooms and bar service with lots of people, crowded beaches and the same old chain restaurant style dining, this would not be your place. But still I would suggest taking the drive out during the day, having lunch at the restaurant, walking the beach. A lot of people seemed to enjoy that. As for us, we will book a week here again followed by a week in our other favorite resort Maui side next year.
  
  Thanks again to the staff at the resort and the restaurant staff (separately owned and operated) and especially to Tyler the shuttle driver, his restaurant recommendations were great and his pride for the north shore and Hawaii really stood out.
